The Mardi Himal Trek is a perfect trek that offers a wonderful balance of natural beauty, cultural encounters, and stunning vistas of the Himalayas in a relatively short period of time.
Despite being in the most popular Annapurna region, the Mardi Himal trek witnesses a smaller number of tourists than other regions. Hence, this trek can be perfect for those who have a short time and also want to explore the less crowded trekking route of Nepal, purely enjoying nature.
During the trek, you will see phenomenal views of Mount Machapuchare (Fishtail) (6,993 m), Annapurna South (7,219 m), Hiunchuli (6,441 m), Mardi Himal (5,587 m), and many other peaks.
The Mardi Himal Trek begins with a 25-minute flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara, which provides stunning views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain peaks. Then we’ll take a picturesque two-hour drive from Pokhara to Kande.
From here, the trip heads northwest, passing many camps, such as Australian Camp, Forest Camp, High Camp, and Low Camp. These areas are predominantly populated by Gurung people.
Following that, we’ll head towards the Upper View Point (4,250 m) and Mardi Himal Base Camp (4,500 m). You will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the Mardi Himal massif and surrounding summits.
From the base camp, the trail gradually descends to Landruk village. Here, a private vehicle will be waiting for us, where we will take a scenic drive to Pokhara. And return to Kathmandu in a tourist bus, the next morning.

The best time for the Mardi Himal Trek is during spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). These seasons offer clear skies, stable weather, and the best mountain views. Spring is known for blooming rhododendrons, while autumn provides excellent visibility of the Himalayan peaks.
To do the Mardi Himal Trek, you need the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and a TIMS (Trekkers’ Information Management System) card.
The Mardi Himal Trek is less crowded compared to popular routes like Everest Base Camp and Annapurna Circuit. This makes it an excellent choice for trekkers seeking a peaceful and less taken path trekking experience in Nepal
Yes, travel insurance is highly recommended for the Mardi Himal Trek in Nepal. Your insurance should cover trekking at high altitudes and include emergency evacuation. Although the trek is relatively short, having proper coverage ensures safety and peace of mind during your Mardi Himal adventure.
The Mardi Himal Trek usually starts from Kande or Phedi, which are about a 30–45 minute drive from Pokhara. From there, the trail gradually ascends through forests and villages toward Mardi Himal Base Camp, making it one of the most accessible trekking routes in the Annapurna region.
While it was previously possible to do the Mardi Himal Trek independently, current regulations in Nepal require trekkers to hire a licensed guide in most trekking regions. Hiring a guide enhances safety, navigation, and overall trekking experience in the Mardi Himal region.
The Mardi Himal Trek offers incredible highlights, including close-up views of Machapuchare (Fishtail), Annapurna South, and Mardi Himal. The trail passes through lush rhododendron forests, scenic ridgelines, and peaceful mountain landscapes, making it one of the most scenic short treks in Nepal.
The Mardi Himal Trek trail is well-marked and relatively easy to follow, passing through forests, stone steps, and scenic ridges. While some sections can be steep, especially near High Camp, the overall trail condition is manageable for most trekkers with basic hiking experience.
Yes, Wi-Fi and electricity are available in most lodges along the Mardi Himal Trek, particularly in popular stops like Landruk, Pothana, and Low Camp. While luxury or higher-end lodges often provide more reliable connectivity and charging facilities, services may be limited at higher altitudes, such as High Camp, so it’s a good idea to carry a power bank for backup.
